“If you don’t know where you’re going, any road’ll take you there.” That was one of the many nuggets of wisdom imparted by “the quiet Beatle.” George Harrison went on to flourish in his artistic endeavors after the (inarguably) greatest rock band to ever exist parted ways in 1970. In fact, he was the first Beatle to release a solo album.

Today, on what would’ve been his 71st birthday, we’re paying tribute to the work that didn’t have to contend with any McCartney-Lennon dominance. One of his greatest endeavors, All Things Must Pass, received cover design treatment from Monterey Pop Festival’s legendary art director, Tom Wilkes - who is also responsible for The Rolling Stones’ Beggars Banquet, Neil Young’s Harvest, and two Beatles compilations that were released back-to-back in 1973.

A detour, as a result of Cloud Nine's success, after a few dismal efforts, led him to join the supergroup consisting of Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison that was known as The Traveling Wilburys. Brainwashed, his final effort, was released a year after his death.

Sadly, Harrison passed away in 2001 after losing a long and arduous battle with cancer. If today’s tributes are any indication, one of his most famous quotes will always ring true: “Life goes on within you and without you.”
